Sure, his forearms set unrealistic standards, and yeah, as adults we were mildly depressed to find no instant strength from spinach ingestion, but that didn't keep us from admiring him.If you admire him as much as we do, maybe it's time you wear your admiration for this smarmy sailor on your sleeve. It even comes with foam lined arms (for that spinach effect), although we highly recommend padding them even more on your own. Imagine our surprise realizing that spinach was essentially just another type of lettuce. Our Popeye the Sailorman Costume is 100 percent polyester with black shirt, red sailor collar, blue pants, and adjustable belt. Maybe something that tasted like slugs. Your costume sleeve. Who knew? It certainly looked like slugs in the cartoons. We took a poll in the cafeteria and most of us agreed that the spinach in the salad bar tasted essentially the same as the lettuce (the rest of us hadn't even realized we were eating spinach).Aside from his poor spinach-advertising skills, we did always like Popeye. That way everyone will know with one glance how spinach-powered you are! The no-nonsense good-guy sailor that was always off saving that long-legged beanpole of a girlfriend, Olive Oyl. He's strong to the finish, cause he eats his spinach...You know, it was thanks to this cartoon that the majority of us expected spinach to be some gross, slimy food when we grew up. Not us. He'd seem down on his luck, swallow some strength-inducing spinach, and WA-POW, Bluto was down for the count. Popeye the sailor man!
